Pair a grey blazer with blue jeans and a roll-neck in a deeper shade of grey. The close tones bring the upper half of the outfit together, while the denim gives the tailoring a relaxed setting.
I chose this combination because it feels natural, versatile and easy to wear.
Why wear a grey blazer with a grey roll-neck?
Different shades give a tonal outfit depth. In these photographs, the darker knit sits within the lighter outline of the blazer, drawing attention to its lapels and shoulder. The two greys are close without matching exactly.
In her British Vogue guide to wearing grey, published on 1 November 2026, Emma Spedding suggests layering different grey tones to give an outfit a cohesive feel. She also presents grey as a base for stronger colours, including red and purple. On tonal dressing, she writes: “you don’t need to worry about finding exact colour matches.”
Try the blazer beside your knit in daylight. A difference in shade or texture can be enough to make each piece distinct. With a roll-neck filling the space inside the lapels, the neckline needs little else.
What jeans work with a grey blazer?
The blue jeans in this look have room through the leg, continuing the relaxed proportions of the outfit. Their colour creates a clear change beneath the grey layers.
Look at where the blazer finishes and how the denim falls below it. A straighter leg gives a quieter line; a wider pair adds volume. The relationship between the two matters more than a particular denim label.
Here, the waistband and belt remain visible beneath the open jacket. That small break lets you see where the layers meet. If you are unsure about the jacket’s proportions, our fit guidance is a useful starting point.

Ankle boots or trainers?
Ankle boots take the combination into the city; trainers make it an easy choice for a more casual day. The grey layers and blue denim can stay the same.
A Who What Wear feature on Nicole Kidman also highlights a grey blazer worn with jeans and white trainers.
Try the jeans with the shoes you plan to wear. Check how the hem sits over an ankle boot or falls towards a trainer, then look at the whole silhouette with the blazer on.
Which details finish the look?
Turned-back cuffs reveal the wrists and jewellery. Against the defined shoulder and lapels, they give the tailoring a more informal finish.
Small earrings, rings and pieces at the wrist provide the finishing details. With the grey layers and blue denim already in place, the outfit has a clear palette; the accessories can stay simple.

The blazer in these photographs is a first look at our next piece. Our clients asked for a blazer they could wear at the office all day, one that feels cooler and less like a coat. So we are making it thinner, closer to a jacket. More soon.
